Take a Child Outside!! (TACO)

September 24-30 Take a Child Outside Week!

Here is a link to a website with more information.

"Inspired by Richard Louv’s book “Last Child in the Woods,” Take A Child Outside week was founded to help connect children with nature. By celebrating opportunities for children to have free play outside, highlighting locations offering places to explore the outdoors, and providing simple activities anyone can do, we hope to increase the number of children experiencing the natural world."

To celebrate this week, Steve and I will be reading to classes in the Falcon's Nest. Here is a Sign Up Genius where you can sign up to bring your classes out for a read-a-loud. You will notice there are not enough slots for all classrooms, with coverage responsibilities, it is difficult to do that many slots, but please bring your students outside, have them make observations of nature, or come up with your own way to celebrate the outdoors with your students.

Love seeing my recess kids play the classics. Hide-n-Seek and foot races!

Keep doing What You do Best!

Undoubtedly, some of you saw comments, Tweets, or maybe even tortured yourself with the live Youtube feed of the recent WCPSS Board Meeting. My intent is certainly not to disparage the work done by the board and district leadership. It is very important, but this is an extremely trying time with strong feelings all around us. Please know that I am confident that you are doing your very best to follow ever changing guidance around protocols. You have our full support. Hopefully, the following will clear some things up.

  • We cannot require masking of students outside under any circumstances.  I know we are saying when students choose to play with other classes, they must mask. While you can keep your students staying with your class, we cannot require masking outside under any circumstances.
  • You are also allowed to remove your mask outdoors.
  • If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
Please do not allow yourself to become embroiled in the controversy. If a parent reaches out to you with questions about your masking policies, please direct them to me. You are doing a great job keeping kids safe and keeping kids in school. Thank you!

Remember that you are continuing to build relationships with students and their families, and meeting students where they are so you can help them grow. That, and the way we treat each other are all that we can control.

Loving my time covering SSA in Ms. Caruso's classroom!

Our beautiful Moms-to-be remind us what is important every day. Thank you to those who planned Ms. Gardner's "Donuts and Diapers" event!

Grateful to our AC Repair people who are doing the best they can to cool us off!
