Remembering Why we love this!

This is the effect you have on students!

With all of the additional stressors of this year, it may be sometimes difficult to remember why we do this.  Thank you Lissy for sharing the Article: "How to Beat the October Blues and Regain your Enthusiasm for Teaching". One of the strategies mentioned in the article is to focus on the positive. Sometimes that is hard, but hopefully, you save the positive kudos from students, parents, admin. Now is a great time to go back through those. Reread them and remember that you earned that praise because you are great at your job. Never forget what you have navigated in the last 20 months, personally, and professionally.

We will be reinstituting Faculty SOAR feathers. Once we get a number of submissions, I will pick one a day to read on the announcements. Let's celebrate each other and continue to add to the volumes of Kudos you already have. Thank you for all you do and thank you for hanging in there and not quitting!

Positive Communication helps!

As we get to that trickier time of year when things get more stressful, a little reminder of how much of an impact your positive words can have on students and on your own feelings. A big thank you to the specialists for doing this. It is clearly having a big impact on kids in a great way!

"My name is Julie Driggers and I am the art specialist at Green Hope Elementary.  I also am the "Carpool Queen" at GHE and I'm outside every day in the afternoons.  The specialists have decided to start a program this year called, Weekly Brag.  We each take a grade level and select 5 students a week to brag on by sending an email to the parents.  In a world where it sometimes feels like the focus is on the negative, we want to make sure parents know about all the positive that is going on! "

"Today, I want to brag about Gregory! He is such a delight to have in art class!  He is a good listener and follows directions and is always anxious to please.  He seems to really like art class and that always makes me happy!  We're happy to have him at GHE!"

Parent Response:
"Thank you for this wonderful "brag" about Gregory.  He comes home bursting from school and is absolutely LOVING it.  There is a marked change in his approach to art since beginning kindergarten--he used to be rarely interested in it and often would choose any other activity.  Now he comes home every day, delighted to show us his latest piece of artwork, loves to describe how art is made up of other things ("Mom, did you know that a person is made up of different shapes? If I draw all those shapes then I draw something better than a stick figure!?"), and is now asking for more art supplies.

It is truly a joy to see--thank you for all you've done to spark this in him and for all you do for GHE!"

TACO 'Bout a Great week at GHE!

You are amazing! Thank you for all you do everyday! This is the time of year where we may start to see some friend issues pop up in kids. Behaviors start to pick up. I know mine are 😁. The novelty of being back in school may be waning, and we might feel as though we need a break.

Even if it seems like we just did it, now is a great time to remind students about the SOAR expectations and reinforce those expected behaviors with SOAR feathers. We often think about this again in January, but I would submit that since our students really need some extra support with SEL, we really can not do it early or often enough.

We will getting some extra support in the way of Central Office personnel, and maybe some parent volunteers to help cover lunches, etc. I will have more information on this next week. This is a coordinated effort between central office and the PTAs across the county to provide support for schools.
Remember to be kind to yourself and reach out if you need anything at all.

Thanks to all who volunteered for Scoop and a Show!
